NECTAR Poetry
Part 1
Artwork by Chantal Maltais-Oei
At the beginning of our second edition we did this delightful creative process and created a series of poems. We sat in a circle, each with a piece of paper and pen. The theme we chose is what the Nectar Collective means to us.
We each wrote our one selected word on the top of the page and passed the paper to the person on the left. Once we read the word from the previous person, we folded the paper over the front to cover the word and added two words that flowed with the first one. Then we passed it on, observed the two words, folded it and added three words that flowed with the previous ones. We continued and made two lines with four words, then started descending and concluded the poem with a single word.
We are eight members, hence the poem has 8 lines with 1, 2, 3, 4, 4, 3, 2, 1 words. We each passed the paper back to the original person and took turns reading them out loud. It was a magical experience that left each of us in awe of our co-creations. Be inspired to try it!

Chantal Maltais-Oei on the creation of the poem’s Artwork
Being an artist I was just amazed how each of our poems reflected the immediate reality of the person who had written the first word.
I wanted to create a piece of artwork inspired by each poem and the Nectarines behind it.
In the vibe of ‘Riding the waves of change in love,’ I felt the need to work with recycled materials. I had chosen Amalia’s poem SURPRISE to start this new adventure with a cigarette box, old magazines, branches from nature, acrylic paint and the poem as it was originally hand-written on paper.
Enjoy the ride !!
